On September 24, the Deaf Studies Incubator Fellows joined Rachel Kolb, author of the recently published book Articulate: A Deaf Memoir of Voice, for a wide-ranging conversation. This opportunity allowed the Fellows to engage with the author regarding choices she made while writing Articulate, including: how to translate concepts from Deaf and disability studies into general-audience writing, how to engage both hearing and deaf readers, how to navigate the publishing process with a trade press and hearing editors, and so forth. In turn, Rachel engages with the Fellows about their current and future work, as well as their respective journeys to Gallaudet.
